Bloodstone

Bloodstone is a far-less known crystal than say Amethyst or Quartz. But it still can hold a lot of significance in some people’s Craft or just help with certain things. It is green, or a gray-ish-green, with red specks, streaks, or sections and, as far as I have seen, almost always come tumbled, but can be found in their raw form (they just are less “striking”). In the United States, there have been deposits found in California, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington. The green color comes from high levels of chlorite, while the red comes from iron oxide impurities – namely Hematite. It was called Heliotrope by the Ancient Greeks and is associated with the root chakra. Christian lore states that the blood of Jesus dripped onto green stones during his Crucifixion, thus creating bloodstone. When worn on the arm of a warrior, it would ease the bleeding due to wounds received. When worn attached to a warrior’s chest it would keep them feeling courageous and strong with high moral, even after suffering massive casualties.

Bloodstone can be used to improve energy circulation and remove blocks. It is also good for centering and grounding. It can be used in renewal and bringing about change and, just as it can be used to remove energy blockages, it can be used to break mental, physical, and emotional blockages to bring about change, as well. Bloodstone can be particularly useful in helping people move past trauma and grief, revitalizing relationships, strengthening willpower, and removing bewilderment. Because of its ability to remove these blockages, it is often associated with stability and can increase adaptability and organization, decrease confusion, and aids in anxiety and self-confidence. Because of its use as increasing the flow of energy, some people may use it for healing (physical, mental, emotional, and/or spiritual). It can have many medicinal properties such as aiding in circulation, treating anemia and other blood diseases, blood pressure, eases bleeding, decreasing nosebleeds. It can create a healthier immune system by removing toxins and helping the body absorb nutrients, relieving allergies, and can alleviate cramping, diabetes, lupus, colds, the flu, physical traumas, and issues with strength.
